Blogging – How Important is it to Update Your Blog on a Regular Basis?

June 6th, 2010

So how often should you update your blog?

Updating your blog automatically every hour or so with junk articles using an automatic blog posting system is not recommended but updating your blog every day or so with well written or original content is highly desirable. Having several blogs might seem like a good idea but one has to have the time or resources available to update them regularly.

Technically from a marketing and social aspect it might seem like a good idea to update or add new content to your blog to get a constant flow of traffic to your blog. However one must remember that the web spiders might send traffic to your website from content that pleases them and ranks your blog higher but people read your blog. Web spiders might like junk articles because they are keyword rich and search engine optimized but people spend money not web spiders. Ultimately you have to please your readers to make money from a business blog.

Frequently updating your blog will also allow you to get your blog pings accepted more often and have your blog listed on the front of blog directories. So you could invest in one of the many automatic blog posters that spin the articles you load up hundreds at a time to make them appear unique to the search engine spiders. My experience though has been that the readability of these articles to the potential buyer is inferior to human written unique articles and in some cases they are difficult to read and understand. My question is therefore how can you become an expert in your niche market with these junk articles?

Updating your blog regularly is also important if you use social marketing sites to spread the word about your blog in order to get traffic to your website. Social marketing however is all about human connections so your blog needs to be readable and easy to understand when these people take interest in your social network posts and visit your blog.

Having a blog is not just about making money online but is also about connecting with other blog owners who share common interests. Updating your blog will give them an incentive to visit your blog regularly, post comments and refer their readers to your blog. If you do the same to their blogs it ultimately creates lots of back links for everyone concerned and helps to rank your blog and website higher in the search engine results.

Therefore it is important to update your blog regularly with interesting and unique content that is well written and readable by humans as well as the search engine spiders to build both marketing and social marketing relationships that encourage people to return and visit your blog. Affiliate Marketing – Your Guide to Making Money With Affiliate Marketing

May 30th, 2010

Affiliate marketing is a term you will hear a lot when you start learning about marketing online. Most seasoned internet marketers and webmasters know how it works and how to be a successful affiliate. However as a new online marketer this term may be unfamiliar and as such you have little idea what they are talking about, let alone how to make money as an affiliate marketer.

What is affiliate marketing?

In a nutshell affiliate marketing is when you sell or get leads for another merchants product or service. When a merchant needs help to get sales he will find, especially for “hot” products, that he will have more than ample affiliates willing to help him sell it. All you have to do is sign up as an affiliate to be paid a commission or a flat rate rate per lead or sale. The rate of commission can vary greatly from a small percentage up to 100% of the selling price.

How to make money with affiliate marketing.

A decent income can be achieved in a number of ways. Some affiliates use a website, others a blog, newsletter, emails, ads etc. A lot of affiliates use a website or blog to promote products and/or services because they can easily collect email details for the further follow up of people interested in what they are promoting. It also allows them to add their personal unique content and to eventually become an expert in their chosen niche market. You will also notice that most successful affiliates use a domain name relevant to what they are selling.

After you have selected a suitable affiliate product to promote you will need to find some good keywords. Some merchants now provide lots of tools for their affiliates which include relevant keywords. So pick a relevant domain name based on one of those keywords and have it hosted by a good hosting company with minimal down time.

Next decide if you want a website or blog. A blog is easier to update and is more search engine friendly so my preference is to go for a blog. Some affiliates just use a simple squeeze page to collect email details on the way through to the merchants sales page. Add some content to your website or blog and embed your affiliate links in the text and pictures.

So now you have your blog all set up but very little will happen unless you promote it. You can get instant traffic using paid advertising such as PPC ( pay per click) or you can use the various free alternatives available. You can do some bum marketing or article writing, brag about your site on sites such as Twitter or Facebook or create other web 2.0 sites such as Squidoo, Blogger or HubPages to send traffic to your main site.

Optimising your site for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a great idea. Some blogs already have this built in to a certain extent. This is where your keywords come in handy because if you can optimize your site for some good keywords it will help get you to the top of the search engines ranking a lot faster. You can either learn how to do this yourself or hire an SEO expert.

As mentioned previously writing unique articles about the market you are promoting and submitting them to high ranking article directories will bring some targeted traffic to your website from the link you place in the resource box of your articles. They will also add back links to your site which will also help you rank higher in the search engine results for your targeted keywords.

Like most internet marketing, affiliate marketing rarely makes you money over night but if you build up you site by adding content regularly and not give up, you will eventually make money selling affiliate products. For more information http://www.kerriesheehan.com

Free Website Promotion – Tips to Promote Your Website For Free

May 29th, 2010

Ask the PPC (pay per click) experts and they will say that free website promotion does not work. Maybe you do not get instant traffic as with paid methods such as PPC but even though free website promotion methods take time to work, they also tend to keep on working.

Yes free website promotion is feasible and does work well but it takes time and patience to get traffic to your new website.

Here are some tips to promote your website for free.

1. Get Your Website Listed.

Find the best internet directories and have them list your website. Some will list your site quickly but most will either be slow or even decline your listing request. Make sure your website is well formatted, looks good and not like a work in progress so that you have a higher chance of being listed.

2. Participate Actively in Forums.

Select appropriate forums for your niche and post regularly because forums are a great source of free website promotion if done well. Do not spam forums and only use your signature for promotion.

3. Consider Writing a Press Release.

Write a press release to advertise your new site or latest information about your site. Submit it to press release sites which you can easily find by doing a simple search for “press release”.

4. Check Out Your Competition.

Check out your competition and be friendly to them so that in time they will link to you site because the more link juice webmasters can get the better they rank.

5. Write Great Articles.

Write articles with tips and information about your niche and submit them to article directories. Other webmasters are always looking for content for their sites and there is a good chance that well written articles will get published by them. Advertise your website in the article resource box so people can click through to your site for more information.

6. Email Signatures.

Insert your website, its URL and features in your daily emails and let them spread the word about your site. Do not forget to add your website and its URL to the bottom of your auto-responder emails so your subscribers can click through for more information about your niche.

7. Banner Ads.

Banner ads are not as effectively as they once were but if your can create a great banner for your site why not ask other webmasters to swap banners with you. If nothing else they will create links back to your site and give you a better SEO ranking.

If you want to advertise your website for free then give some of my free website promotion tips a go. For instant traffic by all means pay for it but for long term traffic some of the free methods will work for longer than the initial hit one gets with paid traffic methods. Marketing Tactics – What Are Good Marketing Tactics?

May 19th, 2010

We as marketers all want to want to make money online by making more sales. One way of doing this is to raise your conversion rate. By doing that you make more sales for the same number of potential customers. It possible to achieve a better conversion rate by using good marketing tactics.

Marketing in itself is very simple – all you have to do is find someone with a need for your product and sell it to them. Easier said that done I guess you would say.

First of all you have to understand and know which marketing techniques work for your particular products. Different marketing techniques are required to sell someone something that they have a desperate need for than to sell someone something that is just nice to own. By keeping things simple you will avoid confusing your customers and will have them more likely coming back for repeat sales.

What are Good Marketing Tactics?

In a nutshell they revolve around knowing what are the needs of your potential customers and how they will find your website or how you can reach them. Some marketers will tell you they are secrets and if you want to know what they are you will have to buy their latest marketing product. However you think of these tactics as basically learning how to read the customers mind. You do that by doing research to find out what are their most pressing problems relating to the products you sell. By knowing this you will also know how they will find your business and what product solutions you can offer them. It it is a bit like fishing in that if you know what bait to use and where the fish are, the fish are more likely to bite. Think of your research as finding the fish and right bait for customer sales. If you give people what they want they some will show their appreciation by buying your product.

With the selling online products you do not have the advantage of face to face contact as in the offline world. Neither can you take advantage of the senses of touch and smell. So you need a good headline to catch their eye with a bit of added intrigue to make them want to read on. This is also called grabbing the customers attention and keeping it.

Some of the tactics you need to use are

1. Great copy with great headlines to grab the attention of your website visitors.
2. Identifying their problem and offering a solution that they will find hard to refuse.
3. Answer all their questions, some before they even think of them. Your research is your best friend in doing this.
4. Recognize their objections and address them.
5. Use unbiased product reviews in that you show that your product has a little flaw of two.
6. Create a sense of scarcity and urgency. Give them a special price to buy today. If you limit the number of products you have stick to it.
7. Give them the option of a free report or further information in exchange for their email details so you can follow them up.

These are only a few of the good marketing tactics you can use but remember people are getting more aware of marketing tactics now so keep your word if you have only a certain number of products or say you are rising the price. Above all else keep things simple as people today do not have time to play games or decipher complicated things. What you need to do is keep them reading when they land on you site and give them clear instructions on what to do next.

Spend the time developing a marketing plan and be prepared to change it to do something different and not keep doing same thing over and over getting the same results. Do more of the things that work and less of the things that do not work. In other words fine tune your systems so that they lead to happier customers who will return their appreciation by buying more of your products.

Good marketing tactics are just that, marketing tactics, without a marketing plan and some way of measuring the success of your marketing. For more information about marketing http://www.kerriesheehan.com

Basics of Starting Your Own Computer Support Business

May 17th, 2010

Daily I seem to struggle and somehow solve my own computer problems. It is very frustrating not to mention time consuming when all my computer bits and pieces seem to be at odds with one another. Even a simple printer malfunction can crave a big hole in my day. However I can only imagine the panic of others who are far less computer literate than I am as they find themselves in a predicament of even the simplest computer glitches that they have no idea how to solve.

This got me thinking about how even with a little training and experience virtually anyone could find themselves work as a computer support person for small businesses and individuals who work at home. Have you noticed how everything seems to just stop in businesses when the computer stops because we are now so reliant upon them?

Some computer users and businesses with even a simple but frustrating problem find that computer experts are so expensive these days that it may be cheaper to go out and buy a new computer. Even the simplest glitch can seem like a big deal to someone with very little experience and knowledge of computers. Not only is buying a new computer unnecessary but is a waste of our planets limited resources. Imagine the relief these people would feel if they had someone to call upon to quickly solve these glitches.

Anyone who relies upon a computer to run their own home business dreads the day their computer will have problems. A lot of these people have little knowledge of how a computer works and their greatest fear is that their computer will freeze up and they will lose all their data. We have all heard the stories of hard drive crashes with all data lost but most people who work from home do not know what to do to make sure that their data is backed up on removable hard drives or an online back up service. After crashing two hard drives myself it was a real pain to get everything back to normal even with adequate back ups. Just by assisting these people with devising an adequate back up system to make their lives less stressful will have them more likely to call you when they have future computer problems.

It is a good idea to start locally so you can be called out to take care of computer problems on site or so that people can bring their computers to you to be repaired. You may also consider offering online support for simple problems and software support. Most importantly you will need somewhere clean and organized to work. You may also need to get a business licence and insurance to protect your business. Also you should invest in some software to help you diagnose problems and keep up to date with what are the best antivirus scanners as a lot of problems are now created by computer viruses.

Since most of your potential clients will be online then build yourself a website. A properly optimised website will help you get known even in your own area. Optimize your website for local searches by finding out what your local potential customers are searching for when they have computer problems. Use this information to also target any local paid advertising.

If you can solve the majority of your own computer problems then you already have a lot of knowledge that will help you solve the computer problems of others as well. The hardest part of starting your own computer support business will be the marketing and finding suitable customers. So take care of your customers as they will spread the word and bring in more business for you. People love to have their computer glitches solved and will happily tell others about it no matter if its not that big a deal to you. Remember big deals to others can help your bank account.

Building your website, optimizing it for search engine traffic and online marketing will be your biggest hurdles to overcome with starting your own computer support business. For more information http://www.kerriesheehan.com
